Technical Study of Solar Option
& Terms of Reference

Dear Supporters and Friends,
Thank you for your patience in awaiting an update on the Solar Option Project presentation at the International Conference on Saving Lake Chad, held in Abuja Feb. 26-28, 2018, and attended by over 1100 stakeholders, including the Heads of State of Nigeria, Niger and Chad.
I’m pleased to report that Guy’s conference presentation, “Lake Chad Water Transfer Using Solar Option,” was very well received, both immediately afterward and in conversations and comments throughout the conference. While at this point we don’t know if it will be adopted, we do know that the Solar Option now has at least two influential African champions, who realize that the Solar Option is the only way to save Lake Chad before it goes extinct.

At this early stage post-conference, we don’t know if the Solar Option will be adopted. Since the Conference there have been some staff changes in the Lake Chad Basin Commission, which may or may not affect action the immediate future. The project impacts six countries, and, as you can imagine, the politics are complex. It’s too soon to predict what will happen in the short-term. However, we continue to push forward. Stay tuned!
On a personal note, I want to say that participating in this project and the International Conference has been a personal high note, and I know I speak for Guy Immega and Kader Issoufou, the third member of the Solar Option team, as well. We are grateful for your support and encouragement.
